About The Director

Karlene Kidman is the director of the Layton Youth Court, which she helped start in March 1998. Youth Courts are a diversionary program for first time youth offenders who admit to the charges. They get a second chance by coming to youth court and not receiving a Juvenile court record. Youth are trained to be the judges, clerks and bailiffs who hear the cases in youth court.

Karlene is a graduate of WSU with BS in both History and Sociology, graduating in 1999. She is a board member of the Layton Community Action Council. She is on the Utah State Youth Court Advisory Board and on the National Association of Youth Courts task force, which is currently setting up the National Association. She is on the Utah State Youth Court Conference committee and has helped plan eleven conferences so far with the 13th one this year (2010) in Layton.

Karlene has four children and a beautiful granddaughter.
